Summary: This was a total disappointment
Comment: I had this unit for 2 seasons and the transmission went out. I took it into the dealer and they claimed they went to Honda and they said I miss used it. I am 30+ years in the nursery industry I treat all my tools with care. I use this piece of junk for only 2 gardening spring seasons in my 3 raised garden beds. Stay away from this product as Honda does not stand behind it!! I bought a Mantis 3 years ago and am very happy with it.

Comment: My husband asked me to find a mini-tiller preferably with a 4 cycle engine. I did about 4 days worth of research and read all the reviews I could find and we decided on the Honda powered tiller. When it arrived I had second thoughts after seeing how small "mini" really is! We have black gumbo soil, when it's dry it's like concrete and when it's wet it's like thick tar, this tiller looked like it couldn't handle it. It's been a year now, we have a good sized garden going and we plan to double the size of it. The tiller works great, it never bogs, just digs in and cuts right through the gumbo. We have to work in gypsum, peatmoss and manure to break up the soil so that the seeds can develop a good root system and the tiller does this very well. The only reason I didn't give the tiller 5 stars, is that after several uses the metal piece that holds the tiller upright when you stop tilling fell off and got mixed into the soil, it took about 15 minutes of raking dirt around to find it. This could have been a assembly/operator problem (my husband)I'm not sure. But the piece went right back on and it never happened since. I really like the fact that the tiller is so controllable for a woman, it doesn't vibrate and it's light in weight, you don't have to man-handle it and your arms don't get tired.

Summary: An Achilles heel
Comment: Yes, it's all true: it starts easily, runs quietly, minimum vibration, no need to mix gas and oil, all those things are true, but it has an Achilles heel: the transmission! After not too much use, the tines stopped spinning. I took it to a repair shop. The transmission was shot. Parts alone are $130 plus labor - 50% of the original cost. What does one do? Apparently this is not an uncommon problem based on online research. There is no worthwhile alternative, however, so I either have to rent or repair. Not sure yet which I'll do.

This mini tiller from Patriot Products is an environmentally friendly tiller that doesn't require messy gas/oil mixing. The 4-cycle Honda GX22 engine runs quietly with very little vibration, and produces 70 percent less emissions than similar 2-cycle engines. It can till up to a 10 inch path or as small as 6 inches.
